Jennifer Conley Sexton, Volunteer and Public Relations Coordinator for Roanoke County Fire & Rescue confirms firefighters from Fort Lewis, Mason's Cove, Catawba, and Salem were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Brian Clingenpeel, Community Outreach Coordinator says no one was home when the fire broke out.

Sexton says a firefighter fell through the second floor to the basement.  He was rescued by the rapid intervention team and is expected to be okay.

Crews tell us hydrants are in the area, but because they are located farther than where the hoses can reach, trucks had to transport water from the hydrant to the scene.

Clingenpeel says the inside of the home is significantly damaged. Damage estimates are $120,000. One cat died in the fire. The owner of the home is displaced.
