Parents say students at the school were unable to eat, even if their accounts were only one dollar and fifty-cents in debts.

The school's principal Kimberly Ringstaff says she gave cafeteria workers a list of 15 students who she had previously talked to about their accounts. She says they agreed to pack their lunches instead.

"It's hard to fix something that went astray as this. And, I love every kid in this building. I had a lot of them in my classroom and i didn't want this to happen. I didn't mean for it to happen. I never said this was the way it was going to happen," Ringstaff said.

Ringstaff says she instructed cafeteria staff to not allow those students to charge any more lunches and that's where the communication breakdown happened. She says that unpaid lunch charges have risen to $4,555.

She says the kids on the list had large outstanding balances, some owed as much as 150-dollars.
