(WSLS 10) - A ribbon cutting takes place today commemorating the newly rehabilitated Roanoke River Trail access. The event also launches the National Park Service's Centennial Year on the Blue Ridge Parkway. After the ribbon cutting, a short hike will take place led by Congressman Bob Goodlatte and Parkway Superintendent Mark Woods.

A team of special needs cheerleaders will perform at tonight's basketball game at Rustburg High School. The eight girls, ranging in age from 12 to 19 make up the cheer squad Super Stars. The group is the only special needs competitive cheer team in the area and have performed at local basketball games to perfect their performance skills ahead of two competitions this spring in Virginia Beach.

Sweet Briar College President Phillip Stone and chair of the Board of Directors Teresa Tomlinson will hold a town hall meeting today at 4 p.m. with people from Amherst County. They will provide an update on the college and take questions.
