BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - Plans are moving forward to build a possible Amtrak stop in Bedford.
The state initially turned down Bedford's request - citing the distance between the Roanoke and Lynchburg locations and a low projected ridership.

However, the state is hearing Bedford out again on benefits of an Amtrak stop in the town.
Bedford hired Wendel companies for an in-depth study. The company is looking at data such as ridership estimates, environmental analysis, and economic benefits.
Charlie Kolakowski, Bedford's town manager, said it paid Wendell $72,000. Some of that money comes from taxpayer dollars and organizations.
"This is a significant step, and it's a long journey we're on to get this, but we're committed to convincing them there's a definite benefit to the region and the commonwealth in having this stop in Bedford," says Kolakowski.
"Hopefully we can convince them it's a good idea, and make the business case for them, and show them the idea and start talking to Amtrak and Norfolk Southern and how we should proceed," says Chip Badger, Wendel Companies.
The study is expected to be completed in mid March.
