Tuesday's opening, in time for lunch, comes after some delays. On January 27, Town Council granted Zoës a special exception, allowing it to work around town regulations in order to permit parking in front of the proposed building line at First and Main shopping center and South Main Street. At the time, it was slated to open in summer 2015.

A limited number of parking spaces were allowed while a pedestrian crossing signage, crosswalk striping and an additional sidewalk were required.

Zoës offers fresh, mediterranean food including soups, sandwiches and kebobs. It also offers catering.

It's the chain's third store in Southwest and Central Virginia behind Lynchburg and Charlottesville.

Zoës is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
