WSLS 10 SPORTS - Curtis Turner made a name for himself in 1950 when he won two races in a row, starting from the pole and leading the whole race. That was just the beginning of the legendary career Turner had in NASCAR.

"Curtis was just flamboyant, he just went out, he didn't own any of his cars he didn't get into the building of the cars or the handling of the cars, you just put him in the car and he didn't complain about the way it handled or nothing he just drove it to his ability of what the car was," explained former NASCAR driver Richard Petty.

Turner raced for many well known racing teams, including the Wood Brothers, a team founded by Glen Wood, another NASCAR Hall-of-famer. His sons, now current owners of Wood Brothers Racing, are happy Turner joins their dad among the sports best.

"He was our dads hero, daddy started going to Daytona in 1946 and watching his hero Curtis Turner on the sand it was important or so to daddy because of the past with him. We got pictures everywhere of Curtis and Curtis actually won his last race, in what was considered the Grand National Series at the time, he won his last race in our car in Rockingham in 1965 so that's special."

Turner passed away in a plane crash in 1970, but his legacy in NASCAR lives on, now officially set in stone as one of the 2016 Hall of Fame inductees.
