ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke City Schools tried to make sure students didn't go hungry through the long snowy weekend.  Five schools sent plastic bags of food home with students before the snow started thanks to a $2,000 donation from Member One. The money was used to buy food to give to students before a winter storm.

At Fallon Park Elementary, 200 students received the food bags with cereal, Ramen noodles and canned food. More than three-quarters of all Roanoke City School students get free or reduced lunches. At Fallon Park, it's 90-percent.

In February 2015, 350 bagged lunches were given to families when school was out for days because of ice and snow. During that storm, Roanoke City Cafeteria workers packed enough food for more than one meal, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, treats and cartons of milk.
