ROANOKE (WSLS) - Road crews continue to work around the clock to removing snow from parking lots and roads. The first major snow storm to hit Virginia in 2016 left close to 2 feet of snow in some areas.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is working to clear roads in Roanoke County.

The weather has slowed down drivers on the road but caused some businesses to pick up. Steven Bratcher runs a third generation business, Bratcher's Oak Grove Shell. They provide snow removal services for various businesses and non-profits in the area. He said depending on the size of the lot, crews can make anywhere between $500 to $2000.

"It's tremendous. It's a big snow storm," said Bratcher. It's a lot of work. It's a lot of grueling hours in the truck. But it brings a lot of fun.

As the white stuff piled up, many businesses closed. Some stores like the TangleWood Car Wash remained open for as long as possible.

"There are a lot of people on the road still and we want to make sure they can still get gas," said Mike Bell, manager at Tanglewood Auto Wash

While it may have slowed down their business for now, managers at the auto wash hope, once the snow is cleared from the roads, more customers come in to have the salt and chemicals washed off their cars.
