Day two of snowstorm means another busy day for hardworking VSP troopers

(WSLS 10) -- Virginia State Police troopers across the Commonwealth continue to respond to crashes and disabled vehicles. High winds in some areas have now caused snow to drift and pile up across interstates and primary roads, making driving even more dangerous.

Since the start of the storm from midnight Friday, January 2,, through 10 p.m. Saturday, January 23, Virginia State Police have responded to 6,193 total calls -- 1,374 total traffic crashes and 1,883 disabled vehicles statewide.

From midnight Saturday through 6 a.m. Saturday, VSP has responded to 145 traffic crashes and 229 disabled vehicles in Virginia. The majority of those calls were in Northern Virginia, where there were 62 crashes and 71 disabled vehicles.

As of 10 p.m. Saturday, State Police responded to 292 traffic crashes and 804 disabled vehicles.

The Office of the Virginia Chief Medical Examiner has also confirmed three storm-related deaths.
