ROANOKE (WSLS10) - Not everyone has a warm place to stay during the snow storm. Some people stay outside despite cold temperatures, because they think they have nowhere else to go. But the Roanoke community came together to provide some relief for people living on the streets.

Since the beginning of the week, Paradise Cathedral and the Hope Center in Roanoke have been reaching out to the homeless community, hoping to bring them in from the cold.

In all, organizers say they've put about 40 people up for the night, and have even helped four find permanent homes and jobs.

"We wanted to help; the number one goal is to help," said Pastor Joseph Mayo of Paradise Cathedral. "We want to help people, get them out of the cold, get them something to eat, and get them a warm place where they can lay down and rest."

"They saved my life," said Justin Wood, who was previously homeless. "I mean, I probably would have froze. I didn't have any blankets. All I had was cardboard to sit on."

Organizers say they will continue to search for others to bring in throughout the storm.

Both outreach groups are providing a warm place to stay, food, clothing, and more. All of the items they're supplying are donated. If you would like to learn how you can help, click here.
