MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS 10) – Workers across the New River Valley prepared the roads on Thursday ahead of the snow storm.

Crews in Blacksburg are working 12-hour shifts. They pre-treated the roads with brine and plow trucks are ready to go once the snow starts.

The Blacksburg public works department is working with the police and fire departments should an emergency happen, but they’re encouraging drivers to stay inside.

“We hope that the temperature stays up, we hope that the vehicles stay off the roads so that we can get everything cleaned up.,” said John Boyer, Assistant Director of Blacksburg public works.

Members of the Christiansburg public works department have filled dump trucks with 1,200 tons of rock salt and 200 tons of chip stone.
