'Neighborhood' organization aims to connect Roanoke residents, promote unity

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, people in Roanoke used food and fellowship to help break down stereotypes and connect with others.

Members of the organization called "Neighborhood" gathered at Benny Marconi's.

The organization started nearly a year ago as a way to connect people and help turn strangers into friends.

Families came out for a slice a pizza and to help raise money for the group's outreach efforts.

Organizers said the events help promote unity.

"It allows people to say, 'Hey this person is not what I assumed,'" said Macklyn Mosley, creator or Neighborhood. "It allows for connectivity, networking and community."

A portion of the food sales at Benny's Monday night went toward efforts to connect people in the community through Neighborhood.
