Thousands get rid of unwanted electronics at the 10Cares Grand eRecycle Drive

Roanoke (WSLS 10) - The first ever E-Recycling Drive took place on Saturday. WSLS 10 is teamed up with Grand Home Furnishings and Q-99 for Saturday's Grand E-Recycling Drive. Organizers said there were nearly 2700 participants and more than 80,000 pounds of items were collected.

The event took place from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Volunteers were on site to help unload your vehicles for you.

People could bring cell phones, laptops, computers, and other electronics to the event.

Randy Frazier from River Acceptance LLC says the point of the drive is to keep these materials out of landfills because they are made from heavy metals that can hurt the environment.
