Goodwill Industries to offer hospitality training program

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Goodwill Industries of the Valley will now offer a new training program in hospitality beginning in January.

Hospitality continues to be a growing industry in the Roanoke Valley. According to the Convention and Visitor's Bureau annual report, in 2014 travel brought in $754 million dollars to the Valley.

That number was up 3.3 percent from the previous year.

The program which is credentialed by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI),will prepare students for a career in that growing hospitality industry.

Through Goodwill's hospitality training program, individuals will gain skills and knowledge needed to keep lodging guest rooms clean, safe and maintained; gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a food service professional in a dining facility, and learn basic food safety practices for preparing and serving food.

In addition to classroom training, a mock hotel suite will provide hands-on experience.

Employee Excellence training will be included, which is a soft skills training program developed by the Virginia Goodwill Network. Other training components will include job shadowing at various hotels and restaurants; and lectures and guest speakers from the local hospitality industry.
