ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The holiday wasn't happy for some travelers this weekend.

Bad weather is to blame for cancelled flights across the country.

In Southwest Virginia, out of the 147 total flights scheduled to depart from the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport this past week, 37 were cancelled and 54 more were delayed.

That is roughly the same number of cancellations the airport saw in the entire month of October this year.

"This is a front that goes basically from Texas all the way up through the mid-atlantic, and so this has been going on, we're over a week into this now, and so, there are other fronts, but this is just a trough that is just not moving," said Airport Spokesman Brad Boettcher.

Fog on the tarmac was one of the big factors in preventing planes from taking off.

Boettcher says there is a minimum standard set by the airlines for visibility, and the airport is working to try and get that lowered so more planes can leave in the future.
