Albemarle Co. court to set control date in Jesse Matthew case

WVIR – ALBEMARLE COUNTY (WVIR) - The man accused of killing Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington is due to appear in court Thursday.

Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr. is scheduled go before a judge in Albemarle Circuit Court at 2:30 p.m.

The hearing is a control date to see where the case stands and to set future hearings in that case.

Matthew is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection to the death of 20-year-old Harrington. She vanished on October 17, 2009, during a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena. Her body was discovered about three months

later on a farm in Albemarle County.

Matthew is also charged with capital murder in the death of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham.

In June, Matthew was convicted of sexually assaulting and attempting to kill a woman in Fairfax County. The judge handed down three life sentences to Matthew in that case.
