Habitat for Humanity Builders Club guides new volunteers in Day 8

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Day eight of the Home for the Holidays build brought out volunteers from Security Lock and Key.

"Both my wife and I enjoy having younger people or less experienced people," said Jim Sheahan who is part of the Builders Club and shares his skills with newer volunteers.

At the Chhetri family home, we taught John Perdue, President of Security Lock and Key, how to install vinyl siding. It's something Perdue has done before but he says it's been years and today's lesson from Sheahan helped him get back to the basics.

Walt Woods, 84, is part of the Builders Club

"He's a lot of fun. I'm glad that he's there to kind of show us what we're doing," said Perdue.

"We appreciate like the folks out here today have the enthusiasm and jump right into it, accept instructions really well," said Sheahan.

Also part of the Builders Club is 84-year old Walt Woods. He enjoys teaching other volunteers.

"Most of the people here are really interested in learning how to do new things and different things," said Woods.

Jenna Zibton works with a team on the stairs

WSLS 10's Virginia Today Anchor Jenna Zibton enjoyed learning something different. Together, Walt, Al and Jenna installed the stair skirt, the boards between the wall and stairs.

"When you put in a step or you put in a baseboard or whatever it is you can look back and say I have accomplished something," said Woods.

About 3,500 hours goes into one house to make a difference for local families. The Chhetri Family home will be Habitat for Humanity's house number 201.

The keys are handed over to the Chhetri Family December 18.
