WSLS 10, Habitat for Humanity work to give family a house to call their very own

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Work starts Tuesday on a project that will give one family in Roanoke a house to call their very own this holiday season.

WSLS 10 is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity and nine sponsors to build the Chhetri family a beautiful new home in just three weeks.

The Chhetri's came to the United States from Nepal five years ago as refugees and have been working to make a life here ever since.

Now, they will finally have an opportunity to make their dreams of living comfortably here a reality.

The basement of the structure has already been completed. That was done back in October by students through the organization Total Action for Progress.

Right now, the Chhetris are having to make due in a house that it too small for their family, where many of their utilities don't work. They applied to Habitat this year and were excited to learn their prayers are going to be answered.

The Chhetri's will be joining all of the volunteers in working on the house over the next three weeks, putting in sweat equity hours. Work gets underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, where WSLS 10's Lindsey Ward and John Carlin will be leading groundbreaking ceremonies.
