Volvo to lay off 734 employees from Dublin plant, Pulaski Co. official says

DUBLIN (WSLS 10) - Volvo announced Tuesday it plans to lay off 734 employees from its Dublin plant, according to Director of Human Resources Jerry Shiffner.

The layoffs will take affect in February 2016 over a three week period.

In a letter issued Dec. 1 to the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors, it stated as required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988, members must give 60 days' advance notice of the layoffs.

At this time, the layoffs only affect the Dublin, Va., location along Cougar Trail Road.

Officials say they expect the layoffs to be permanent in nature.

The Dublin plant currently employs approximately 2,800 people.

The 1.6 million sq. ft. New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin is the largest Volvo truck manufacturing facility in the world. The Dublin plant produces all Volvo trucks sold in North America, including the VNM, VNL, VNX, VHD and VAH models.
