Shoppers getting a head start to avoid Black Friday rush

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The National Retail Federation estimates 136 million people will shop this weekend, which is two million than last year.

The organization expects about 30 million people to shop on Thanksgiving and about 100 million on Black Friday.

Shoppers like Brady Kennedy camped out Wednesday at 6 p.m. to be the number one person in line at Best Buy on Thursday.

He's getting some gifts for his family for Christmas and wanted to avoid the rush.

"It's a good deal I couldn't pass it up, I mean that's the only we we can give them a good Christmas is being out here waiting in lines and being out in the cold," Brady Kennedy said.

People at Target camped out at 1:30 a.m. Thursday to be the first in line.

"Well normally my family we don't celebrate until the weekend, so it's best for the family, so I decided hey why not come on out, good deals give a shot," Justin Hayth, a shopper said.

The Valley View Mall is bustling with shoppers, who want good deals which is why some came in hours after celebrating turkey day.

"I came to get some jewelry they had a pretty good sale so I had to come and get in line," Lateshia Smith said.

Smith said she comes to the mall every year on Thanksgiving to beat the rush of Black Friday shoppers.

She said the traffic wasn't bad at all.
