Evans came to the Danville Regional Medical Center's ER November 23 with a gunshot wound to his leg. After asking Evans questions about the shooting, investigators said the circumstances described were 'questionable.' Evans said he did not want to press charges.

Police kept the investigation open and re-interviewed Evans at his home. He continued to insist police drop the investigation.

Emergency personnel were called to Evans' home Nov. 26 around 3:30 a.m. for a medical distress call. Evans was taken back to Danville Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

His body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for an autopsy and determination of Evans' cause of death.
