The Forest Volunteer Fire Department, along with Bedford County Fire & Rescue EMS, HazMat and support personnel, were sent to Forestry Equipment of Virginia located at 12660 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike for a reported carbon dioxide leak.

It was determined that a paint booth heat sensor had malfunctioned, which activated the fire suppression system causing an unknown quantity of carbon dioxide to be released into painting the area of the building. This release of carbon dioxide created an unsafe atmosphere by reducing the oxygen level in this area.

Employees of the building were immediately evacuated.

Fire department personnel shut down the fire suppression system and ventilated the area to increase the oxygen levels to a safe reading after which the employees were allowed to reenter the

building.

No one was hurt.
