Police investigate two separate shootings in Roanoke

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Roanoke City police continue to investigate two shootings that happened Friday night.

Police identified Derick Mansel Whorley, 22, of Roanoke as a suspect in one of the shootings.

According to Roanoke City Police Spokesman Scott Lemon, the first incident happened around 9:19 p.m. Friday. Police responded to shots fired in the 300 block of Gilmer Avenue. Authorities said two men arrived at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Police identified the victims as Kevine Ryann Johnson, 23, of Roanoke and Nelson Mikal Sanders, 22, of Roanoke.

Authorities have issued warrants for Worley in connection to this incident. He faces two counts of malicious wounding

The second incident happened nearly one hour later. Police said a woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1100 block of Pilot Street. She was identified as Erica Rachael Rowell, 24, of Roanoke. On Saturday, officers arrested Christopher Rodriguez Payne, 30, of Roanoke on one count of malicious wounding in connection to the shooting.
