(WSLS 10) - Vinton Town Council holds a special meeting today. The board will meet in closed session to interview prospective candidates for Chief of Police. Former chief Ben Cook retired from the position in October.

Students in the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine will serve pancakes today to raise money for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. For $5, you can attend the all you can eat breakfast for dinner event. It's the second year the college has held this fundraiser.

Liberty University kicks off the Christmas season today as it lights its Christmas Tree. There will also be live music and refreshments. It takes place on the steps of Demoss Hall starting at 7 p.m.

Radford University Phi Sigma Pi Fraternity will raise awareness about the Total Action for Progress program Project Discovery. The program encourages and informs first-generation college bound students. Interested students will get a tour of the campus and get to talk to current students about their experiences.

Governor Terry McAuliffe proclaims this week Winter Preparedness Week as a reminder to prepare now before severe winter weather arrives. You should have an emergency kit with basic supplies like food and water for three days and a battery powered radio.
