  • While many people circle around looking for the closest spot, parking at a side door or secondary entrance can protect your car from door dings.
  • If you plan to shop at night or in a parking garage, keep your headlights on so you're easier to see.
  • This is a big one: make sure you have your keys before locking your door.  It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and lock yourself out.
  • Experts say thieves like to window shop, so place all shopping bags and valuables in the trunk and out of view.
  • Finally, even a slow speed collision can result in injuries so make sure you slow down and buckle up.
