Glenvar Title Run Travels to Union

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS)-Glenvar's run to a second consecutive 2A state title..will pull a "Willie Nelson"

through Union High this weekend.  The Bears pummeled Graham 49-21 to advance to the third round, or State VHSL quarterfinals round.  These two teams met in the second round a year ago, with Glenvar winning by ten 19-9.

This season Glenvar has not blinked. They are still a perfect 12-0 after handling rival Giles for the second time this season.

But this year the Highlanders are the third seed in the 2A West region and will travel to Union--the 2 seed.  The Bears are also 12-0.  For Glenvar and coach Kevin Clifford it's about the journey and not necessarily the accolades that come after.

"You know I'm not about-- I think our program's gotten to a certain point for specific reasons. We work hard. But to me the trophies and rings all those things are transparent you know they don't last.  They turn to dust and rust so to speak. I think it's about the relationships--working hard, caring about each other--and all the other stuff will take care of itself," explains Clifford.

"Well I can see everybody's likes to doubt us so we're going to take them one game at a time. And our main goal is to make it to make it to the state championship over in Salem.  It would mean a lot that would mean I would be there both my junior and senior years so it be great to do that, " says senior lineman Quentin Alls.

Glenvar and Union are set to kick at 2pm Saturday.
