Color blind man sees vibrant colors with the help of new glasses

Brittni Smallwood, News 4 Reporter – BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) Imagine going through life not realizing that the stop light is red, yellow, and green.

National statistics show that 8 percent of men and .5 percent of women have a common form of red-green color blindness.

Newly developed glasses by a California based company can help some color blind people, see color. The company has created lenses that use high-tech optics to enhance color before it reaches the eye.

A Tonawanda man, Chris Setlock, put on the EnChroma glasses and experienced vibrant colors for the first time.

He looked at a pink flower without the EnChroma glasses and said it looked white. Once he put them back on, he could see. The flowers were pink.

He had the same experience with purple cabbage, orange flowers and yellow peppers.

"I'm speechless" Setlock said. "This is outstanding."
