(WSLS 10) - The Omni Homestead resort flips the switch lighting its Christmas Tree today. The tree is over 23 feet tall and 16 feet wide. It's decorated with 2,000 ornaments and more than 1,200 LED lights. Santa Claus will also be there to greet kids young and old.

Snowshoe Mountain Resort kicks off its Thanksgiving Celebration today. Today there are arts and crafts sessions at the resort. There's a big Thanksgiving feast that takes place tomorrow. Activities run through Saturday. The resort expects the ski slopes to open as soon as the weather allows.

As holiday travel increases today, the Click It or Ticket mini-mobilization continues in Christiansburg. Police are increasing patrols to enforce seat belt laws. The goal is to reinforce the importance of seal belt usage and reduce the number of injuries and fatalities for those involved in an accident. Thursday is the last day of the mini-mobilization.

Today is the last day for late registration ahead of tomorrow's Drumstick Dash. Runners can register for $30 with walkers participating for $15. You can register on race day, but you will have to pay $5 more. The 5K gets underway Thanksgiving Day at 9 a.m.

If you're travelling over the next several days with kids in the car, you know how stressful that trip is sometimes. Triple A has some ways you can make the trip a little more enjoyable. They suggest giving your child a sense of responsibility by letting them pack a bag with some of their favorite games or comforting things like stuffed animals or blankets. Plan breaks along the way and make sure any restaurants you chose are kid friendly. You can also let them picks some of the audio for the trip, whether its music or a book on tape. Also, teach them geography by showing them the route you will take on a map. Make sure you pack plenty of snacks and drinks.
