WYTHEVILLE (WSLS 10) - Wythe County is battling budget problems as the calendar year nears its end.

In a memo to the budget committee last week, the interim county administrator said the board must look for ways to save this fiscal year and understand that next fiscal year may be one of the most difficult the county has faced.

Leaders say this is largely due to new mandates and funding cuts from the state.

The county just implemented a five cent real estate tax increase to help offset debt.

The county has cut several positions over the last couple years. It also recently invested about $3 million in a new expo center in hopes of bringing new business to the area.
