Illinois fired head coach Tim Beckman over mishandling of injuries before the 2015 season. Bill Cubit has served as interim coach and taken the team to a 5-6 season.

They need to defeat a 9-2 Northwestern team to become bowl eligible, while the Hokies need a win at rival Virginia to reach 6-6 as well. An interesting side note-- Foster graduated from Nokomis, Illinois High school back in 1977.
