'Bittersweet' appears to be the consensus as Frank Beamer bids Lane Stadium goodbye and 'appreciative' is the other word most used both from Hokie nation and from Coach Beamer himself.

"While I've been amazed at our fans and the appreciation they have shown here throughout the day, you know I've always said we got the greatest fans. They showed it again today, you know and I appreciate them I saw a lot of signs that said something about appreciating me, but I appreciate them," said Beamer.

It was also an emotional day for defensive coordinator Bud Foster. "I said on the radio show I just really appreciate people showing up today and celebrating him and what he's all about and what is meant to a lot of people, including myself," he said.

Fullback Sam Rogers agreed, "he saw something in me and he's the reason I'm here and I'm forever grateful for that. You don't play to school like this in the community that he built I'm forever grateful for him and for the opportunity,"

Whether they were riding the emotion of their legendary leaders farewell or they were just simply an improving football team at the end of the season, the Hokies effort against North Carolina was a worthy one for the man that has led them for three decades.rts.
