Volunteers have started pulling shirts for large teams entered to run the Thanksgiving morning 5k.

The race funds the Roanoke Rescue Mission's annual kitchen budget.

At about a week out from the race 8,000 runners have registered.

2012 marked the most racers topping out at 15,000.

"It's become tradition for so many folks we just and we just weren't sure what to expect, but we are grateful for every person that comes out and every dog and every stroller that comes and joins us," explained race coordinator, Uneita Matthews.

Race packet pick-up begins on Monday, November 23.

You can also stop by the Mission to register and even sign-up until 8:30 Thanksgiving Day morning.
