Sweet Briar students studying abroad in Paris safe after attacks

AMHERST CO. (WSLS 10) - All Sweet Briar College students in Paris, France are safe and accounted for after reported terrorist attacks in the city.

Students are studying abroad in Paris and Nice, France as part of the Junior Study Abroad program offered at Sweet Briar College.

Sweet Briar spokesperson Jennifer McManamay confirms that all students in the colleges JYF study abroad program have been accounted for, and were unharmed after six simultaneous terrorist attacks throughout the city. She says they have been in direct contact with the director of program in Paris, John Lambeth.

"We have been working directly with John Lambeth, director of JYF in Paris and Nice, and Giulia V.C. Witcome, director of JYS in Seville, to enact all safety measures. We are grateful that all JYF and JYS students are accounted for and safe," the college states in a release.

"Sweet Briar College is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic events in Paris tonight. Our hearts go out to all the victims, their families and the city of Paris."

The program is part of an intercollegiate immersion study. The JYF Paris program is the oldest coeducational intercollegiate program in Paris. Through the program, students at Sweet Briar College have an opportunity to study at a French university, volunteer and live with a host family.
