GOTW: Graham at James River Nov. 13

BUCHANAN (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - There's history in the making for first-year coach of the James River Knights, Jake Phillips, who's also a former Bath Co state championship QB.

The Knights are playing host to a football playoff game for the first time. That after an 8-2 record and an 8 seed in the 2A playoffs.

This school has never won a playoff game, either. So they hope to check that box Friday night against Graham, which has a 5-5  record this season.

Coach Phillips said he was impressed with the team's regular season strength.

Coach Phillips explained:

"...It says a lot for the program, really, and it says a lot for the effort that these kids really put in this year. It started back in March when I took over the job. The coaches put in a lot of time, the players put in the time in off-season workouts. And it took a little bit to get going. 'Course to establish the expectations and the goals and what was really expected of each and every player. But once we got rolling, we won eight-straight games and now we can host the first ever playoff game on this field."

Phillips was also starting QB at William & Mary after high school. Seems the Knights have responded well to his experience.
