No signs of foul play in death of young woman who fell from cliff in Giles County

GILES COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Giles County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a young woman died after falling from a cliff early Thursday morning.

Makayla Lynee Wright, 18, of Newport, died at Pembroke from trauma sustained in a tragic fall from a cliff, according to Kendall Funeral Home.

The sheriff's office says at this time there is no indication of foul play. An autopsy has been performed by the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke.

Deputies received the call at 1:37 a.m. Thursday, November 12 in reference to a female who had fallen from a rock bluff off of Commissary Hill Road in Pembroke.

Wright was already deceased upon arrival of emergency responders, deputies say.

According to family, Makayla was born in Blacksburg, was a 2015 graduate of Giles High School and Tech Center, was a Certified Nursing Assistant and had been employed at Heritage Hall.

Funeral arrangements are being made with the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke. Condolences may be sent by visiting kendallfuneralhome.com.  

The investigation will remain open until the ME Office has completed the report of their findings.
