Some parents brought their children out to educate them about those who risk their lives to serve our country. Fans of those who served in the military dressed up in red, white and blue to show their patriotism.

"We wanted to come out and support everyone and support our troops and support all the veterans who served our country before us we always wanted to come out and support them a little weather doesn't bother us," Kimberly Rosenberger a parade participant said.

While some enjoyed the floats, for some this is their first time viewing the parade.

"it's awesome, it's actually pretty awesome my daughter is in 5th grade and she has a big veterans day program on tuesday and it's kind of nice for her to see what this is all about and witness it first hand," Kathleen Thorell, a spectator said.

The parade is important to local leaders like Mayor David Bowers who marched as well as Senator John Edwards.

"I think it's very important because we have been trying to do more for veterans here in Virginia and I think supporting veterans is critical and I really appreciate people coming out and supporting veterans," Edwards said.
