RADFORD (WSLS 10) - Radford University criminal justice students heard from a man Tuesday who is not supposed to be alive.

Former death row inmate Ray Krone was sentenced for a brutal murder he did not commit not once, but twice.

Krone was first tried in 1992. The victim was a Pheonix, Arizona bartender at one of his favorite hangout spots. She was found stabbed to death in the men's restroom.

Although Krone said he was home in bed that night, police insisted he was the killer. He was then tried and sentenced to death.

Three years later, the case was granted a retrial.

Despite new DNA evidence found in the victim's injuries that did not match Krone, he was convicted again.

Finally in 2002, more extensive DNA tests exonerated Krone, and he was released. He now travels the world working to outlaw the death penalty.

The new DNA evidence eventually led to a man named Kenneth Phillips. Phillips was later charged with the murder.
