Ghosts, superheros and more expected at West End Center "Spooky Sprint 5k race"

ROANOKE (WSLS) Ghost, ghouls and goblins prepare to run. The 5th annual "Spooky Sprint" 5k race takes place this Halloween.

The event is held by the West End Center, a non-profit organization serving families in Roanoke. The West End Center provides a place for kids to learn after school. Organizers said the 5k event is one of their biggest fundraisers.

"All of the proceeds from this event go back to the kids, getting them supplies, get them out into the community," said Mary Renwick, Development Coordinator for the West End Center. "And all the money goes toward helping them and getting as many enriching activities as possible."

The Spooky Sprint takes place Saturday, Halloween morning. The race starts at 10am at Wasena Park. Race day registration starts at 8:30am morning. There will be a costume contest so people are encouraged to wear a Halloween outfit. City of Roanoke Police Chief Perkins, Roanoke's 11th House District Representative Delegate Sam Rasoul , and WSLS 10 News Anchor Brie Jackson will all be deciding who will get the awesome prizes as winners of this year's Costume Contest!

There will also be an after party at the Wasena City Tap Room directly after the race to enjoy some FREE beer and pizza!!! Awards will be announced at the After Party as well! For more info: http://www.wecspookysprint.com/
