When officers got to the scene, they found Robert Neal Chambers, 62, of Roanoke, with a gunshot wound to the head in the yard of a residence.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Another man, Mark Alfred Paulson, 55, of Roanoke, was laying in the same yard with a gunshot wound to the head and a handgun next to him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this point in the investigation, police said they believe the shooting happened because of an ongoing neighbor dispute between Paulson and Chambers.

Before the shooting, Chambers reportedly heard a noise outside of his residence and went outside to investigate. He found his personal vehicles covered with leaf dust and debris. Police said tracks though the Chambers' yard indicated that someone had driven into the yard, spun out, and leaves and dust were cast onto Chambers' vehicles.

Chambers was in his yard when he was reportedly approached by Paulson. Chambers asked Paulson if he was responsible for the debris on his vehicles. A truck in Paulson' s driveway had dirt and debris consistent with having driven through Chambers' yard.

An argument ensued between the two and Paulson produced a handgun, shooting Chambers' before to taking his own life.

Autopsies will be performed on Chambers and Paulson's bodies at the medical examiner's office.

Detectives said they were still investigating the shooting and evidence technicians would submit physical evidence to the state lab for examination.
