ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near the Interstate 581 interchange reopened Friday evening after an accident, but traffic backups continued.
A multi-vehicle accident caused 7-miles traffic in southbound lanes just south of I-581. Both lanes were closed. After reopening, the shoulder remained closed.

State police said 3 vehicles were involved and no one was injured. Traffic appeared to have been stopping south of where the accident occurred. The first vehicle rear-ended a second, which hit a third vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle who hit the second was charged.

On I-81 at mile marker 143.6 in the County of Roanoke, motorists can expect major delays due to a multi-vehicle accident. The south right shoulder is closed. Traffic backups are approximately 7.0 miles.
