Roanoke man identified as victim in construction site accident in Montgomery County

A Roanoke man died during an incident at a construction site near North Fork Road Thursday afternoon

ELLISTON (WSLS 10) - A Roanoke man died during an incident at a construction site near North Fork Road in Elliston Thursday.

John T. Ferguson, 64, of Roanoke, Va., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said Ferguson was an employee for Faulconer Construction Company - and was doing road construction in the 5700 block of North Fork Road.

As we reported, the accident happened at 12:58 p.m. Thursday, October 22.

Deputies said their office received a 911 call of a track hoe overturned at a construction site on North Fork Road trapping someone underneath.

They said it appeared that the excavator was travelling from the work site when the ground gave way causing the excavator to overturn with Ferguson inside.

The construction company responsible for the site, Faulconer, declined to comment on the incident.

Rescue crews from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Blacksburg's Volunteer Rescue Squad, Roanoke County Fire EMS, Shawsville Rescue and Elliston Fire assisted in during the incident.
