Martinsville and Garden Club of Virginia unveil restored grounds of historic Henry County Courthouse

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) - After three years of planning and thousands of hours of hard work, the city of Martinsville and the Garden Club of Virginia unveiled the restored grounds of the historic Henry County Courthouse.

Standing at the heart of the city, more than 50 community members joined in the celebration Thursday.

The GCV beautified the landscape and the city revamped the strip of land outside of the old courthouse.

"The preservation of history is so important, it's the link from the past to the future," said GVC President Jeanette Cadwallender. "We always try to look ahead at how the future generation be and improve by the work we can do."

The original 1793 log courthouse was destroyed in a fire. What we see today is the remodeled courthouse which dates back to 1824.
