(WSLS 10) - The Town of Blacksburg cuts the ribbon Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. on its first Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Station. The charger allows electric vehicle owners to recharge their car's battery. The charging station is located in the parking lot at the municipal building.

The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League holds an information session in Pittsylvania County about the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline. It's your chance to get answers to your questions about the project as well as hear about potential air and water quality concerns. The meeting is at the Chatham Library Community Room starting at 6 p.m.

Up to fifty Liberty University students will travel to Columbia, S.C. Tuesday to help with disaster relief. It's part of the university's new LU Send Now program which sends students to help after a disaster. The students will work with international relief group Samaritan's Purse and a local church. To be eligible, the students must maintain a certain GPA as well as undergo disaster relief, evangelism, safety and leadership training.

Starting Tuesday, veterans can receive flu shots while sitting in their cars. Nurses at the Salem VA Medical Center will give the shots weekdays through November 6th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You must be enrolled in the VA system and bring your ID card with you.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday for the Harlem Globetrotters. The team, known for its ball handling wizardry, returns to the Berglund Center on March 17th for its 90th season celebration. Tickets start at $16.50 at the box office or online.

As heroin use in the Roanoke Valley continues to rise, concerned groups from around the valley came together to discuss prevention efforts. Tuesday at 3 p.m., representatives from law enforcement, prosecutors, medical professionals and local groups will give an update on statistics related to prescription drug and heroin abuse and unveil a new five part public service announcement campaign.

Tuesday is the last day to register to vote ahead of November's election. You can register today by going to a DMV service center, by going to your local registrar's office or going to the Virginia Department of Elections' website.

If you're just moving into Martinsville or Henry County or looking to relocate there, the Chamber of Commerce will hold a reception for you today. It gives you a chance to learn about area clubs and organizations as well as the attractions in the county. It's at the Visitor Center today starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Western and Central Virginia Council for Aging holds a symposium today. The hope is to educate caregivers on resources available to care for their loved ones at home. A panel of Aging in Place experts and doctors will speak. The event begins at 4:30 at the Jefferson Center.

If you travel in Franklin County, there is a road closure that may impact your morning commute. Route 602 or Callaway Road will close to traffic from near Route 640 to near route 817 for pipe replacement starting today. The road is expected to reopen on Friday.

Gleaning for the World is preparing to send more supplies to those affected by flooding in South Carolina. They will be at the Sam's Club in Lynchburg today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. accepting non-preishable food, baby supplies and personal care products as well as cleaning supplies. The organization has already sent four shipments of water and one shipment of cleaning supplies with another four shipments expected to go out soon. They are also sending supplies to the Bahamas to help those affected by Hurricane Joaquin.

The Salem School Board and City Council hold a joint work session Tuesday. The two boards are expected to discuss state funding trends, debt service timelines and capital project priorities. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in School Board Chambers.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors holds a public hearing Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to discuss establishing a new Recycling Center and Station in Stewartsville. The county's comprehensive plan calls for the current site to be replaced. The new facility will have an attendant's building, 25 yard enclosed roll-off containers and compactors.
