DMV encourages going online to reduce wait times at local offices

(WSLS 10) - A state report shows about one-fifth of people who visit Virginia's Department of Motor Vehicles make those trips unnecessarily.

The Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission reports more than 800,000 customers who went to the DMV could have gone online, called or mailed necessary forms.

If you make a trip to the DMV, but could have done business by mail or online, it will cost you a $5 fee, as well as an increase in wait times for all customers. For a full list of services you can use to avoid going into the DMV, visit its website: http://www.dmv.state.va.us/onlineServices/
