LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - One person died during a crash on Rte. 501 north Friday afternoon.
The Lynchburg Police Department said its officers along with Lynchburg Fire and EMS responded shortly after 2:15 p.m. to 501 North at Timberlake Road for a crash involving a 2000 Hyundai.

The preliminary investigation showed the Hyundai was headed north on 501 when the driver lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway, into the median. The vehicle then struck a tree.
The driver and only passenger had to be extricated. They were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, where the driver died. Next of kin was still being notified.
