Men in 'Halloween style skeleton masks' rob store in Bassett

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Henry County Sheriff's Office has arrested one of two men who they say robbed a Bassett store at gunpoint while wearing Halloween skeleton masks.

The incident happened at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, October 8 at the Dodge Store located at 5683 Virginia Avenue.

Deputies say the two men entered the store, approached the clerks, one suspect brandishing a long gun and the other held a handgun. The men demanded cash and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

A witness saw the men running to their vehicle and leave the parking lot. The witness followed them until the deputies caught up with the suspect vehicle. A vehicle pursuit ensued before the vehicle stopped on Chestnut Knob Road.

One suspect ran from the scene and the other, Darrell Antre Thomas,  19, of Danville, Va., was caught at the vehicle and arrested. He's charged with two counts of Robbery, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Disregard Police Command to Stop, and Endangerment. All four offenses are felonies. Thomas remains in the Henry County Jail without bond.

Deputies searched for the second suspect but could not locate him.

The vehicle was impounded and a handgun and U.S. Currency was recovered from the vehicle.

The second suspect and the long gun are still being sought.
