Man who escaped boating accident released from hospital; arrested on unrelated charge

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - One of two men involved inĀ a boating accident this weekĀ along the Smith River has been arrested by policeĀ on charges unrelated to the incident.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office says Donald James "DJ" Burton, 27, of Ridgeway, Va., was treated and released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Burton was arrested on an outstanding warrant, Capias - Failure to Appear in Court. Deputies say Burton is still being held in the Henry County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

Crews continue to search for the other man, Joseph Reed Sink, Jr. on Thursday. There are no known outstanding charges for Sink.

Henry County Public Safety Director Matt Tatum saysĀ the search will continue through at least Friday and will focus on searching the river and will extend the search to further downstream.

As we've reported, Burton and Sink's, canoe capsized on Tuesday, October 6 along the Smith River in Henry County.

Burton was able to make it to shore, before Sink disappeared downstream.
