GRAYSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Grayson County Schools' Interim Superintendent Dr. Larry Massie asked for more money to run schools for a second time.
Dr. Massie requested $150,000 from the Grayson County Board of Supervisors at its Thursday meeting and the board approved.
Massie said $112,000 will go toward hiring a principal for the Career and Technical Education (CATE) center. He said strong leadership at the center is vital to student improvement.
Massie said students at the CATE center get hands-on experience with life skills - from baking and cooking to balancing a checkbook.
Dr Massie said he did not take asking for additional funds lightly.
"I don't take the support of the supervisors for granted, but I feel we have demonstrated, the school board and I have demonstrated to the board of supervisors, that we are good stewards of tax payer money," Dr. Massie explained.
Massie said the rest of the money will go toward adding security cameras at the schools as well hiring part time staff at the central office.
