Woman dies in rollover crash on I-81 in Roanoke County

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police are investigating a serious rollover accident that killed a 30-year-old woman in Roanoke County.

The crash happened at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 along Interstate-81 northbound at mile marker 136.1, one mile south of Route 619.

Troopers say a 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling north on I-81 when the vehicle lost control, ran off the left side of the roadway into the median, struck an embankment and overturned.

The Explorer was driven by Natalie Danielle Boatman, 23, of Christiansburg. There were four passengers in the vehicle; Jessica Dawn Ratcliffe, 26, Jason Andrew Bain, 29, Ashleigh Hope Denham, 25 and Crystal Lynn Loftis, 30.

The driver and the four passengers were transported from the scene to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Crystal Lynn Loftis later died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital from her injuries.

The driver, Natalie Boatman and the front seat passenger, Ashleigh Denham, were wearing their seat-belts. The three passengers in the rear were unrestrained.

The crash remains under investigation.
