Heavy rain leaves thousands without power in Southwest Virginia

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Severe weather moved across Southwest Virginia service areas Friday into Saturday, leaving a total of more than 4,200 Appalachian Power's customers without power.

More than 2,700 customers are without power in Pulaski County. Currently, 449 customers are without electricity in Washington County.

For many areas, this storm was the latest in a string of recent rainfalls that have saturated the ground with moisture and made conditions favorable for trees to uproot.

The forecast through the remainder of the week could cause significant additional outages.
